One Hot Christmas

I have to be honest when I say I am extremely relieved to be spending the xmas holiday season here in Argentina. They arent playing xmas songs over and over... and over on the radio. Houses arent obnoxiously decorated. There isnt a 90 foot tree that people push and fight for to see some lights go on. Bottom line, its not commercialized.. and I LIKE IT. I woke up and heard the bells ringing from the church across the street and thought... this is the way it should be. Well, off to my xmas eve BBQ! I love being Jewish.

Return of the Hed-i

Well, I'm back in Buenos Aires and I thought I should give a quick update of my return. I arrived safely (obviously) and had minimal problems with the electronics I was bringing back for family and friends. They questioned the 2 laptops I was travelling with but my white lie zipped me thru customs (graphic designer with mac and pc). Outside it was sunny and hot... i love summer!

What a pleasure it was to walk back into the apartment... so clean, so empty.. oh how i missed it!

Went to work early Friday morning but of course the owner forgot it was her own birthday (typical) and that she couldnt come in, SO... I left and went out to ALe's sisters house in Pilar (province outside of Buenos Aires) to sit by her pool and get some color on, what was, my pale nyc winter skin. Saturday I began working in Casa Monserrat. Everything was explained to me by one of the owners, in spanish, at a million miles a minute. Plus he left out a tons of important duties that I'm supposed to do... so, i'm basically learning everything on my own thru trial and error. Grrrreeeeat. But really, its a lovely, sexy, simple job. I welcome the guests, take reservations, make them feel comfortable, show them around the hotel. Also, being that this is Argentina, there are always "mini" problems that need to be dealt with. Lost luggage, heart attacks, no hot water, etc... real mini.

I decided i am going to start taking some private spanish lessons... i'm doing fine but i want to speak even better. Its like yoga, you think you're getting good because you can finally put your leg behing your head but than they want you to stand up and do it!! So basically, two steps foward, one step back.. if that makes any sense.

I even have an English teaching job lined up... it'll be good to make some extra pesos being that the hotel pays per month what most of you probably make per day... or hour.

Other than the J.O.B... its really nice to be here for the holidays. Not that i'm celebrating anything per se... my xmas eve will consist of a "lechon" (baby piggy.. awwww) asado (bbq) at my cousins and sitting by the pool all day. New years eve is still up in the air. We decided to stay around in BA... i'm sure we'll find something exciting.
